Memoir Doesn't Sell!?
I am here to prove you wrong. Meet Shake Ridge Press and its authors.
“Memoir doesn’t sell.”
WHAT!?
For a while now, every time someone in the industry says, “Memoir doesn’t sell,” it’s like a knife cut. Same whenever a writer I am acquainted with comes back to me with this sad story.
Same three words, over and over.
Here’s the thing: I buy and read memoir, I see them on bookshelves and lists all the time, I write and publish memoir (for almost 20 years now), my memoirs have become national bestsellers and have been published in well over 20 languages, and, I love this genre. So . . . what the heck!?
And . . . I am here to prove you wrong.
Also, I decided to start my own publishing company, specializing in--you guessed it already--the many (and beautiful) forms of memoir. This is just a quick note to say, Shake Ridge Press is coming soon!
This is just a quick note to say, Shake Ridge Press is coming soon!
We're launching with three unforgettable true stories —
The Armored Heart by Fred "Doom" Dummar, a Green Beret who risked his life to run the hardest courses in the world beside his blind best friend, a veteran blinded by an IED;
Wrestling With a Rebel by Krista Gibson , a pastor's daughter whose wild son became a professional wrestler; and,
Finding Father by Linda Cobourn , a mother's story of her autistic son's quest to find his father; plus,
My own book, What Makes Memoir Work.
These are stories of transformation, faith, and resilience, and I can’t wait for you to read them.
We are small, we invest in powerful first-person narratives, and we believe true stories, well-written, are one of the things people yearn for in this AI-infused industry. Can’t wait to tell you more about this little underdog story.
Help us send a message that yes, memoir sells!
(Also, your story matters. Don’t let anyone tell you different.)
QUESTION: Have you read a memoir that stays with you? For me, the answer is yes! A current favorite is The Well Trained Wife, by Tia Levings — unforgettable!

So glad u started this press! I ADORE memoir (and creative non-fiction was my genre in my MFA program). Yes!
Praying for success of Shake Ridge Press and hope to submit soon.
